Benzema determined to repay Mourinho faith

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema is confident he can prove himself at the Bernabeu this season and repay the faith new coach Jose Mourinho has shown in him by keeping him at the club.

Benzema was was among a number of high-profile acquisitions made by Florentino Perez 12 months ago but struggled for form in his maiden season at the Bernabeu, scoring just nine goals in 32 games.

He had been expected to leave Real over the summer - with Manchester United among his reported suitors - but when Mourinho replaced Manuel Pellegrini the Portuguese coach outlined his plans to keep Benzema at the club.

And now the Frenchman believes he can rediscover the sort of sensational form that saw him net 49 goals in two seasons for Lyon.

"I have forgotten about everything that happened last year,'' Benzema told Real Madrid's official website. "I am convinced that I am going to score a lot of goals.

"I am headstrong and I will work hard to help my team with titles. Mourinho is great coach. He speaks to me on a regular basis, which is something I appreciate.

"Last season was very difficult for me because it was the first time I played outside my own country. My family and I are now much more adjusted to the city. I am happy to be here.''

"Real Madrid is a great team. Right now the only true forwards are Gonzalo Higuain and myself. Any other forward who joins us will be well received.''
