Bolton sign Oldham teenager, Basham to leave

Bolton Wanderers have announced the signing of Oldham Athletic's 18-year-old striker Tom Eaves on a three-year deal.

Eaves scored a hat-trick against Bolton in a pre-season friendly two weeks ago and his impressive performance convinced Owen Coyle to bring him to the Reebok Stadium.

Eaves made 15 appearances as a substitute for Oldham last season but did not get on the scoresheet.

"We're delighted to have him and we'll look to gradually take step upon step with him, to such a time where he is ready to challenge for a first-team place," Coyle told the club's official website.

"The fact he played in that pre-season game and did very well against us just cemented what we already knew about him, and that is that he is a young player with great potential making his way in the game."

Bolton are expected to lose Chris Basham though, with the 22-year-old midfielder poised to join Blackpool for a fee in excess of £400,000.

"The likelihood today is that Chris Basham will sign for Blackpool with us getting a fee in return for that,'' Coyle said. "He is a player we like and we value here but I had to be fair to him, because his chances have been limited here.

"Morally, I felt I had to give him the opportunity if he wanted to play week in, week out. Ollie [Blackpool boss Ian Holloway] and I had a chat the other day and it looks like it has moved on now and that will probably happen today [Thursday].''
