Hammers confirm deal for Ajax striker Sulejmani

West Ham United have agreed a deal to sign Ajax striker Miralem Sulejmani and only need a work permit in order to finalise the season-long loan.

Sulejmani said on Tuesday he was looking forward to playing in the "strongest league in Europe" and the Hammers have announced that the 21-year-old is on the verge of moving to Upton Park.

Sulejmani, who was not part of Serbia's World Cup squad, will not automatically qualify for a work permit as he has not played in 75% of his country's game in the last two years. But the Hammers can attempt to argue that he is a special talent in order to secure the necessary documents from the Home Office.

"West Ham United can confirm the club have reached agreement with AFC Ajax over the loan transfer of Miralem Sulejmani," a club statement read.

"The club have agreed terms with Ajax and also with the Serbian international forward but the 21-year-old's move from Amsterdam to London is subject to a work permit hearing. West Ham United will make no further comment on this matter until the result of that hearing is known."

Sulejmani became Ajax's record signing in the summer of 2008 when earning a £13 million move after scoring 15 goals in 34 appearances for Heerenveen. However, he has scored only ten goals in 44 appearances for Ajax and has fallen out of favour under Martin Jol.
