Seasiders seal four deals

Blackpool have announced the signing of Craig Cathcart, Ludovic Sylvestre, Elliot Grandin and Malaury Martin to end weeks of frustration in the transfer market.

Holloway slams exit talk

Blackpool had so far been unable to make any signings this summer, but boss Ian Holloway has now confirmed the arrivals and he said: "These four represent the start.

"Some of the targets I'd given the chairman simply wanted too much money, so thank god I had so many targets!"

Defender Cathcart, 21, joins from Manchester United and has signed a three-year deal, while 26-year-old former Barcelona midfielder Sylvestre has left Mlada Boleslav. French winger Grandin, 22, leaves CSKA Moscow and France youth international Malaury, 21, was available on a free transfer from Bordeaux.

Holloway said: "We've got Elliot, an exciting, forward-thinking player, and Craig from Manchester United - and I think I've got a bit of a bargain there thanks to Fergie (United boss Sir Alex Ferguson). He's been trained by them for the last five years and I want to give him an opportunity to play.

"And I've got Ludovic, who I've been trying to sign for the last year and a bit because I've seen him play, was excited by that and now I've managed to get him.

"I couldn't come out and tell all you people all these things because the complexity of the deals these days at this level is so scary it's unbelievable, but we've been thrust in it and I'm delighted to be having these problems."

Reports on Tuesday had claimed Holloway had walked out on the club due to the club's inability to compete in the market, but chairman Karl Oyston said there was no truth at all to the reports.

"I don't usually deal with rumours because if I did I'd be doing nothing else all day long, but I can tell you that this is total nonsense," he said in the Gazette newspaper.

"We are perhaps not particularly savvy to the media spotlight at the moment and I think people put two and two together because the manager was not at the club, he was travelling up from Bristol.

"It is important for Ian and myself to stick together at this time and not to panic and get too excited and hopefully with the characters we are, we're a good foil for each other."

Holloway added: "What's hurt me is that the fans think I'd walk out on them. How wrong is that."
