Injury has forced goalkeeper Ben Foster to withdraw from the England squad to face Hungary on Wednesday night and, with Paul Robinson retiring from international duty, Fabio Capello has strengthened his squad with youngsters Scott Loach and Frankie Fielding.
Problems abound for Capello
Foster sustained an injury in training with his country and although Fabio Capello could have called on Robert Green and David James, both of who appeared during the World Cup finals, he has opted to place his faith in youth.
Foster has been struggling with a back problem and has returned to Birmingham City. A statement from the club read: "Ben has picked up an injury and will return to Birmingham for treatment with the club's medical team."
Capello opted not to replace Robinson following his unexpected announcement that he had withdrawn himself from international consideration on Sunday, but Foster's injury meant that Joe Hart was the only available 'keeper for the visit of Hungary.
Blackburn goalkeeper Fielding, 22, represented England Under-21s in their game against Uzbekistan in Bristol on Tuesday and will travel to London to link up with the senior side.
Following their 2-0 victory, Under-21 coach Stuart Pearce said: "He's just won his first start at Under-21 level and now he will be involved with the seniors. That experience can only stand him in great stead.''
Loach, who represents Watford and is also 22, has made 12 appearances at Under-21 level. He will join up with England following his club's Carling Cup tie against Aldershot on Tuesday night.
Loach told Watford's official website: "I'm massively delighted. From watching these players week in, week out, even if it means sitting on the bench for the whole day, just to have the training session with them all tomorrow and to be involved is a big step for me.
"It's the first foot on the ladder and I'll take that because hopefully I'll have many more to come. I'm so happy to be there tomorrow. It's all exciting times. I honestly can't wait to wake up tomorrow morning and go down and have breakfast with everyone there.
"I know a few of the boys - Kieran Gibbs, Adam Johnson, Jack Wilshere and Joe Hart - so it's a bit more comfortable for me going there.''
News of Foster's withdrawal is the latest setback for Capello as he attempts to put the memory of a terrible World Cup performance behind him.
Robinson and Wes Brown promptly retired from international football after being named in the squad to face Hungary while Darren Bent has also been forced to withdraw due to injury.
