Mancini plans Santa Cruz talks

Roberto Mancini has revealed he plans to speak to Roque Santa Cruz before deciding whether the striker will remain at Manchester City.

Mark Hughes signed Santa Cruz, 28, from former club Blackburn for £17.5 million last summer, but injury problems restricted his involvement in his debut season and it appears he may struggle to earn a place in City's 25-man squad this year.

Marseille and Fulham are among the clubs believed to have shown interest in signing Santa Cruz, but Mancini wants to hold talks before making any decision on his future.

"Roque is a good man and a good player," he said. "I must speak with him."

He added: "So far, it's easy to keep the players happy because the season hasn't started yet, but next Saturday it will be harder. We need to select 25 players but, with 31, it means someone could be left off the list. However, we have four competitions to play and we want to do well in them all."
