Silva admits timing of Spain friendly is 'not great'

David Silva admits his Spain call-up for next week's friendly against Mexico is not ideal as he looks to settle into the Manchester City squad.

Silva, part of Spain's World Cup-winning squad this summer, agreed a move from Valencia to Eastlands while in South Africa but has only just linked up with City after being given an extended break.

He could now face Valencia in Saturday's pre-season friendly at the City of Manchester Stadium but afterwards will have to return to Spain ahead of Wednesday's international friendly match.

"It is always nice to be chosen for your country but I have to admit the timing of this match is not great," he said. "The Premier League is about to start and I need time with the new players at the club, but there is nothing I can do about it and I will be going."

Roberto Mancini added: "I don't understand why after a World Cup why there is another international match like this. Some players only arrived a week ago and after Saturday they go again, which leaves us with only one day to prepare for Tottenham."

Silva, 24, has been linked with many of the elite clubs in Europe but says he decided to join City because they made they made him feel wanted.

"I wanted my future sorted out before the World Cup and Manchester City showed serious intent," he said. "They made it very clear they wanted me and were happy to stick their necks out. I wanted to pay that back.

"I have come here to win titles and important trophies. This club is going to places I want to visit. I can't wait to play alongside Carlos Tevez, Emmanuel Adebayor, Nigel de Jong and Yaya Toure, and that's to name just four."
