Bayern Munich tie down Thomas Muller until 2015

Bayern Munich have announced that Thomas Muller has signed a new contract extension until 2015.

Muller, 20, was a revelation at the World Cup, which he ended as the tournament's joint-top goalscorer with five goals and with the Best Young Player award, and he has now committed his future to the Bundesliga champions.

''FC Bayern rewards performances and the performances of Thomas Muller last season were extraordinary,'' said Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. ''Thomas has given a lot of pleasure to us and to football fans. He won the league, the DFB-Pokal, reached the Champions League final with the team and was the top goalscorer and Best Young Player at the World Cup in South Africa. We are delighted that his long-term future lies with FC Bayern.''

Very few had even heard of Muller just 12 months ago when he was fished out of Bayern's reserve team on the recommendation of Hermann Gerland, who worked alongside coach Louis van Gaal last season after having been in charge of the reserves for eight years.

Van Gaal was suitably impressed and made him a regular in his first team, fielding him 38 times last season.

Muller paid him back with 13 goals which also earned him a late call-up to the Germany national team, with whom he shone in South Africa. He is now ready to embark on only his second season as a senior professional footballer having already achieved more than many do throughout their entire careers.

''Last season, a dream came true for me,'' said the 20-year-old. ''Bavaria is my home, FC Bayern is my club. I am delighted that I will continue to wear the FC Bayern shirt for the next five years.''
