Hammers close in on All Whites defender Reid
West Ham are on the brink of completing a deal to bring New Zealand World Cup defender Winston Reid to Upton Park for a fee in the region of £4 million.
A statement on the Hammers official website on Tuesday had promised fans that a "young international who represented his country with distinction at the World Cup" would be on his way to the club.
Reid is the player in question and with West Ham having agreed a fee with Danish club FC Midtjylland, the All Whites defender, who can play at right-back or centre-back, will complete his move to London subject to a medical.
Hammers boss Avram Grant was impressed by Reid's performances at the World Cup, where the defender helped Ricki Herbert's side to an unbeaten campaign.
Reid's late goal against Slovakia salvaged a point in the All Whites' opening game and made him an immediate hero in New Zealand.
He was rumoured to have caught the attention of Arsenal, but it is the Hammers who have swooped to capture the player, who is likely to complete his move in the next couple of days.
