Cech: I will be ready for West Brom opener

West Brom defender Marek Cech is confident he will be fit for the Premier League opener with champions Chelsea on August 14.

Cech was given an extended break after being part of Slovakia's World Cup squad which reached the last 16 in South Africa.

He only reported back for training last week but played 45 minutes in the friendly clash with Coventry and believes he will be up to speed to face Chelsea.

"I feel like I need to work a lot now because the Chelsea game is very near," Cech said. ``I am happy that I am back and training but fitness-wise I'm certainly not what you would call top quality at the moment.

"I feel this week I will improve a lot and, for sure, I will be ready for the Chelsea game. I have just under two weeks until the game and that is enough time to get in the right physical condition.'']

Meanwhile, Gonzalo Jara has returned to the club after an extended break following World Cup duty and is set to play in the weekend friendly with Osasuna.

Jara played a major role in Chile reaching the second round in South Africa after recovering from a broken metatarsal suffered in February.

The 24-year-old, who joined the Baggies 12 months ago from Colo-Colo for £1.4million, missed the start of pre-season to recuperate. But the midfielder is looking to impress at the weekend and push for a place in the season opener.

"Gonzalo will be involved in some capacity on Saturday," Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo said. "We will assess his condition for the rest of the week before deciding how much he will be involved.

"But he is a quality player and I'm looking forward to seeing him progress in the Premier League.'' I still haven't made my mind up about the opening game at Chelsea so I will be looking at a few options this weekend.''
