Fanni happy at Rennes after Atletico move collapse

Rennes defender Rod Fanni will be content to start the new season with the French club after his summer move to Atletico Madrid hit a stumbling block.

Fanni, 28, rhas been linked with a summer move away from the Route de Lorient, with the Rojiblancos reportedly the right-back's favoured destination.

No move has yet materialised, but Fanni remains unconcerned.

"Somehow, I fall between two chairs,'' he told L'Equipe. "I have the impression of not being part of the plans and, on the other hand, that I am counted on.

"I do not have much choice, so I will wait. Atletico Madrid are interested and still care. But, as I have always said, I'm at a good club. I'm not frustrated.''

Fanni could start in Rennes' Ligue 1 opener at home to Lille on Saturday and is also hoping to be included in Laurent Blanc's first France squad for next Wednesday's friendly against Norway.
