Zambrotta expects title challenge

Gianluca Zambrotta believes AC Milan will challenge for Serie A title this season.

Local rivals Inter are again the team to beat this season, but Zambrotta feels his side are on the right track to challenge them.

"Are we at the level of Inter? We are playing well at the moment, so we feel that we can definitely challenge for the title," Zambrotta told Sky Italia. "We must continue our good work to ensure we start the season well and get the results we need early in the season."

Zambrotta was happy with Milan's commendable performance in the Emirates Cup at the weekend as they drew with Arsenal and Lyon.

"We are feeling very positive after our performances in London, as we played against two teams who will begin their respective seasons very soon," he said. "We had the chance to experiment with our younger players, so it was interesting to see what they could do, and how they can be used in the future.

"I was very impressed with the competence of our new coach, [Massimiliano] Allegri, and it was good to see his plans in training taken into the games."
