McGeady distracted by transfer talk

Celtic boss Neil Lennon admits winger Aiden McGeady is "in a difficult situation" as speculation rages over his future.

Shaun Maloney interview

McGeady, 24, was left out of the Celtic team that played Arsenal in the Emirates Cup on Sunday, and reports have suggested he was left out as he prepares to make a move to Spartak Moscow.

Lennon insists that McGeady's absence was down to a calf injury, but he indicated that the constant talk of a move away from Celtic Park means the player is not fully focused.

"The injury is genuine - Aiden doesn't fake those kind of things because he always wants to play football - but he's in a difficult situation right now," he said in the Daily Record. "I've been there myself years ago towards the end of my time at Leicester when I knew Celtic were interested and making bids for me.

"As a player, your head is all over the place under those circumstances and he's in that place at the minute."

Asked if he had played his last game for the club, he said: "Possibly. You never know what might happen."

Aston Villa have also been strongly linked with a move for McGeady but, asked about the rumours, boss Martin O'Neill told Sky Sports News: "I would not comment on other teams' players."
