Juventus concede Dzeko defeat, target Krasic

Juventus have pulled out of the race to sign Edin Dzeko after failing to conduct productive negotiations with Wolfsburg - news that is certain to please Manchester City.

Wolfsburg have repeatedly stated their determination to retain Dzeko, who was the top scorer in the Bundesliga last season, and reports state their asking price has been put at a prohibitive €40 million.

While cash-rich Manchester City are still believed to be pursuing their long-term target, Juventus have been forced to concede defeat after being shown no encouragement by Dzeko's German employers.

"Dzeko? We like him, but Wolfsburg won't sell, and so the discussion is now closed," general manager Giuseppe Marotta told Corriere dello Sport.

Juve will now return to CSKA Moscow winger Milos Krasic, who has been linked with a move to the Bianconeri for months. Juve are only permitted to sign one more player from outside the EU and Dzeko usurped Krasic as their No. 1 target, but the Serbia winger is now firmly on the agenda once again.

"Krasic? He is a winger that would be good for us," Marotta said. "We will evaluate things. Our team is still being shaped and anything can happen until the end of August."

Marotta has also spoken freely about Juve's transfer plans this summer and has denied that Barcelona's Rafael Marquez and Sampdoria striker Giampaolo Pazzini are targets. The Juve official also expects Brazilian playmaker Diego to remain at the club but talented youngster Sebastian Giovinco will be departing.

"Diego will stay with us," Marotta told Sky Sport Italia. "As for the rumours about Giampaolo Pazzini, we have no intention of disturbing Sampdoria and none of their players enter into our plans for this year.

"I absolutely deny reports that we have ever made an offer for Marquez, let alone taking part in a bidding war.

"There are many clubs interested in him [Giovinco] and we want to give him the opportunity to mature as a first team player. Parma are prepared to invest a few million in order to take Giovinco in a co-ownership deal."
