Khedira has his heart set on Real Madrid move

Sami Khedira's move to Real Madrid looks certain to go ahead after Stuttgart confirmed he has asked to leave the club.

• Khedira close to Real switch

Khedira, 23, has been linked with a move to La Liga after his performances for Germany at the World Cup finals when he superbly stepped into the breach left by the injured Michael Ballack.

A move to Real was initially held up as the player went on holiday after the World Cup, but now he has returned to Stuttgart to finalise a move to Jose Mourinho's new club.

Fredi Bobic, Stuttgart's director of sport, told Bild: "Khedira has informed us that he wants to go to Real. We now have to find a solution. We respect Sami's decision. I know that Stuttgart is close to his heart, but Real don't come calling every day.''

Stuttgart were always going to have to cash in on the defensive midfielder as he has just one year left on his current deal. Reports suggest that Real will pay the Bundesliga side €10 million.
