Dorrans signs new contract with West Bromwich

Graham Dorrans has moved to end speculation about his future by signing a contract extension with West Bromwich Albion.

Dorrans, 23, has been the subject of interest from West Ham United through the summer with the Hammers seeing two bids rejected. Manchester City were also linked with the attacking midfielder.

West Brom always insisted that Dorrans, who joined the Baggies from Livingston for just £250,000 two years ago, was not for sale. The player only signed a contract extension in January but the newly-promoted Premier League club felt they would have to go further to end West Ham's pursuit.

Dorrans has signed a four-year contract at the Hawthorns, with an additional year in the club's favour.

"I'm delighted Graham has signed a new long-term contract, which is fully deserved," manager Roberto Di Matteo told the club's official website. "He made excellent progress last season and we're now very hopeful he can make the step up to the Premier League.

"There has been a lot of media speculation about Graham's future, but it hasn't affected him one bit. Ever since he has reported back for pre-season training, his attitude has been as spot on as it always is and I know for a fact how much he's looking forward to the new season.

"The exciting thing is that Graham knows he still has a lot of work to do and is yet to reach his full potential."

Sporting and technical director Dan Ashworth also said: "We only rewarded Graham with a new contract in January, which tied him to the club until June 2014. But his form got even better during the last few months of the season and we have recognised this by offering him an improved and extended deal."

Dorrans scored 13 Championship goals last term as West Brom were promoted to the top flight behind Newcastle United. The Scotland international was named in the divisional Team of the Year.
