Three from three for Toffees

Young French striker Magaye Gueye scored the winner as Everton defeated A-League club Brisbane Roar 2-1 to complete a clean sweep of wins from their three-match pre-season tour of Australia.

Gueye tapped home the winner seven minutes from the end after Jack Rodwell's second-half opener had been cancelled out by Kosta Barbarouses.

Rodwell opened the scoring four minutes after the re-start with a delightful curling shot from outside the penalty area. The Roar found an unlikely equaliser after 66 minutes when Barbarouses fired home from a tight angle after a quickly-taken free-kick.

But 20-year-old substitute Gueye made sure Everton left Australia with a perfect record as he tapped in Jose Baxter's cross from close range after 83 minutes.

Arsenal opened their pre-season campaign with a comfortable 4-0 win at League Two side Barnet.

Russian Andrey Arshavin put the Gunners ahead after just two minutes, with youngster Jay Simpson netting a first-half double and Samir Nasri - one of 11 second-half substitutes - wrapping things up with 15 minutes left.

Lukasz Fabianski was between the posts, as new signing Laurent Koscielny lined up in defence, while fellow summer arrival Marouane Chamakh was on the bench.

Arsenal went ahead after just two minutes when Arshavin waltzed into the Barnet area following a clever exchange with Rosicky. It was 2-0 on 16 minutes when Simpson netted from close range and Arshavin then fed Wilshere on the break down the left, who pulled the ball back across the face of goal for Simpson to tap in his second and Arsenal's third.

Arsene Wenger changed the entire Arsenal XI at the restart and with 15 minutes left, Nasri capitalised on a mistake by Daniel Leach at the edge of the Barnet box to knock in a fourth.

Chelsea managed to see off Championship side Crystal Palace 1-0 thanks to a goal from Michael Essien.

Essien, in his first appearance since December, rounded off a fine team move in the second half as a Chelsea side largely made up of youngsters came out on top.

Managerless Fulham came away from Dean Court with a frustrating 1-1 draw in their second pre-season friendly since Roy Hodgson's departure, as Bournemouth held the Premier League side.

Anton Robinson blasted the Cherries ahead with a well-timed volley before Bobby Zamora marked his first pre-season appearance with a first-half equaliser. Bournemouth put up some stubborn resistance to a Fulham side who put in a poor performance to follow their 5-0 hammering of Brentford in midweek.

Zamora and strike partner Zoltan Gera spurned early chances before a period of wasteful passing allowed Bournemouth into the game. A clearance from Liam Feeney's cross fell to Robinson who paused before unleashing a 25-yard volley past David Stockdale to give the Npower League One side the lead.

The goal spurred Lewington's side into action and they got themselves back into the match in the 26th minute courtesy of Zamora. A looping cross from Frederik Stoor was fumbled by Shwan Jalal and Zamora tapped into an empty net despite objections from the Bournemouth players that the striker had fouled the keeper.

Liverpool had been due to play Al-Hilal in Austria but the match had to be cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch.

Tottenham opened their pre-season tour of the United States with a goalless draw against the San Jose Earthquakes.

Spurs welcomed back Carlo Cudicini, who was making his first start since being involved in a motorcycle accident last November, and the former Chelsea goalkeeper was called upon to make several decent saves.

Robbie Keane, back from his loan spell at Celtic last season, had the ball in the back of the net early on when he tapped in Jermaine Jenas' drilled effort but the Irishman was judged to have wandered offside.

Gareth Bale, who had been one of the better performers, gave Tottenham a scare when he went down clutching his ankle late in the second half but he was able to continue.
