Cruyff unimpressed by Barca 'circus'

Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff admits he is disappointed to have lost his title as honorary president of the Catalan club but will not stand to be re-elected to the position.

Cruyff was appointed honorary president by former Barcelona president Joan Laporta earlier this year, but new boss Sandro Rosell was unhappy the club's socios were not given the chance to vote on the matter and decided to strip the Dutchman of his title.

Rosell's idea was to allow the socios to vote on whether the club should have a president of honour, and if so, decide later on who that should be, but Cruyff says such a process would only serve to make the club seem foolish.

"We would be making ourselves look ridiculous," he said at a press conference on Saturday. "I don't want to be a problem and it's not necessary to take this to the assembly (for a new vote).

"I really don't want to be a problem for the club and that's why I returned my badge - I've never seen a circus like this.

"This should have been talked about between June 15 and July 1 (during the transitional period before Rosell took over from Laporta), but the matter is closed now."
