Keirrison set for Santos loan

Barcelona striker Keirrison is set to join Santos on loan after his spell at Fiorentina was cut short.

Keirrison, 21, joined Barca in 2009 after a prolific start to his career in Brazil with Coritiba and Palmeiras, but he has since been sent out to Benfica and Fiorentina to gain first-team experience. However, despite joining Fiorentina for 18 months in January, they have now confirmed that the deal has been terminated.

A club statement read: "ACF Fiorentina announce an agreement with Barcelona for the consensual termination of the loan for striker Keirrison De Souza Carneiro. The club thanks the player for his efforts in the four months, which saw him wear the Viola jersey for 285 minutes, scoring two crucial goals against Lazio and Inter. We wish him a career full of goals."

Widespread reports suggest the striker will now return to his homeland with Santos.

Santos president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro said on Futebol Interior: "Keirrison is a player who gives us what we need. He is a great striker and has already played under [coach] Dorival Junior [at Coritiba], who knows him well and asked us to bring him in."
