Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud says the club will not be able to afford Nice striker Loic Remy.
West Ham have already seen a €13.5 million offer for Remy rejected, and while Bordeaux are eager to sign a top striker to replace Marouane Chamakh, Triaud says they are restricted by their budget.
"They refused to accept €13.5 million from West Ham," he said. "I do not see how we could make a proposal that pleased them. I am not saying it's too expensive - I don't know. In any case, it's not within our means."
Remy, 23, had been keen on joining Lyon and Arsenal during the January transfer window.
