Ekici joins Nurnberg on loan

Bayern Munich have sent midfielder Mehmet Ekici out on loan to Bavarian neighbours Nurnberg for the whole of next season.

Ekici, 20, signed his first professional contract with Bayern during the winter break and trained regularly with the first team during the second half of the season, but did not make any appearances despite being on the bench several times.

However, he was a regular in Bayern's reserve team and played 29 times in the third division last season. He will now bid to gain top-flight match experience with Nurnberg after the two clubs agreed a one-year loan deal.

Meanwhile, midfielder Andreas Ottl will not follow Ekici to Nurnberg as he has vowed to see out the remainder of his contract with Bayern and fight for a place in Louis van Gaal's side.

The 25-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at the Frankenstadion after failing to break into Van Gaal's team, but he has ruled out a similar loan spell or permanent move away from the club this summer.

"I can rule out a return to Nurnberg at the present time," he told Bild. "I still have one year on my contract in Munich and I want to make the breakthrough.

"That is my challenge as a footballer. I know how to deal with the difficult situation in Munich - I have learnt that over the years. Therefore, I am ready to fight for my place."
