Marseille release Morientes from contract
Veteran Spanish striker Fernando Morientes is to leave Ligue 1 club Marseille after the last year of his contract was cancelled by mutual consent.
The former Real Madrid, Valencia, Monaco and Liverpool forward had struggled to command a regular place with the French champions and last season made just 12 appearances, scoring one goal.
A three-times Champions League winner while in Madrid, the 34-year-old also scored 27 goals in 47 appearances for Spain.
Morientes could be heading for Mexico as his agent has claimed interest has been shown in him by the club America.
