Allegri installed at AC Milan

AC Milan have confirmed Massimiliano Allegri as their new manager at the San Siro.

Allegri has signed a two-year contract and replaces Leonardo, who parted company with the club after just one season in charge of the Rossoneri, for whom he once played.

Former Cagliari coach Allegri, 42, has long been recognised as AC Milan's first choice, but the Serie A giants were forced to wait while he negotiated the termination of his contract with the Rossoblu. "AC Milan announce that Massimiliano Allegri is the new first team coach," read a statement on the Milan website. "The manager has signed a contract until June 30, 2012."

Allegri is regarded as one of the country's finest young managers and was voted the best coach of the 2008-09 season ahead of Treble-winning Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho.

The 42-year-old was surprisingly relieved of his duties by Cagliari after a row in April but remained contracted to the Sardinian club.

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani had already confirmed a week previously that they would name Allegri as their new coach as soon as they got the green light from Cagliari.
