Antonio Alvarez lands extended Sevilla deal
Sevilla have decided to keep faith with Copa del Rey-winning coach Antonio Alvarez for next season.
Alvarez took over the Andalusian side on an interim basis in March following the sacking of Manolo Jimenez.
Alvarez was initially put in charge until the end of the season but, after leading Sevilla to a top-four finish in La Liga and last week helping them beat Atletico Madrid in the final of the Copa del Rey, it was unanimously agreed by the board to reward him with a one-year contract extension.
The 55-year-old will hold a press conference alongside club president Jose Maria del Nido at 1900 local time on Wednesday evening at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
As a player at Sevilla, Alvarez progressed through the ranks at the club and was a key part of the back four for 13 years.
Since retiring as a player he has served as assistant coach to Joaquin Caparros, Juande Ramos and Jimenez as well as holding the post of technical secretary with the Andalusians.
