Tottenham tie Ledley King to new two-year deal

Ledley King has capped a superb season at Tottenham Hotspur by signing a new two-year contract with the Premier League club.

Despite his chronic injury problems, King made 20 appearances for the club this season as they secured qualification for the Champions League by beating Manchester City into fourth place.

Alongside Michael Dawson, King played a prominent role during the conclusion of the campaign and was rewarded with a call-up to England's preliminary 30-man squad for the World Cup finals.

Tottenham have also sought to reward their captain by tying him to a new contract that will keep him at White Hart Lane until the summer of 2012.

"I am delighted to have signed a new contract with Spurs," King told the club's official website. "I have been here since I was a schoolboy and I could never see myself going anywhere else. This is where I want to continue playing my football.

"We've got the prospect of Champions League football to look forward to next season and with the quality of players we have I believe we are on the brink of something big.

"It is an exciting time for the club with a new training ground being built and plans for a new stadium. I am enjoying my football and I want to be a part of what is happening here."
