Good news for Gosling following surgery

Everton have received some encouraging news regarding the likely period of recuperation for injury-stricken midfielder Dan Gosling.

An injury sustained in a Premier League tie against Wolves in March was initially expected to ensure Gosling would miss nine months due to a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

That prognosis has been revised after surgery revealed the damage was less extensive than anticipated, although the 20-year-old still faces a prolonged period on the sidelines.

"Dan is doing very good after his surgery. There was less damage than we first thought so that was a positive,'' assistant manager Steve Round told the club's official website.

"The surgery went really well. We are very pleased with his progress so far but it is going to be a long haul for the boy. He has got a lot of rehabilitation to do and a lot of hard work ahead of him.

"All being well, if Dan puts the time and effort in, listens to the physios and follows the programme there is no reason why he shouldn't make a full recovery."

Gosling sustained the injury in a collision with Wolves goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann, bringing an end to a promising campaign in which he made 17 Premier League appearances for Everton.
