Footy codes back World Cup bid: FFA boss

Soccer officials aren't concerned about a possible fixture clash with other football codes if they're successful with their bid to host the World Cup in 2018 or 2022.

Football Federation Australia chief executive Ben Buckley said other codes were fully behind the sport's bid after signing off on a memorandum of understanding with the AFL, NRL and rugby union last weekend.

And he said he didn't feel that memorandum needed a stipulation preventing other codes from scheduling matches at the same time as World Cup matches.

"No, I think what we're achieving is an understanding with the other codes now that we've sorted out some of the complexities around that," Buckley told AAP at Tuesday's announcement of the Socceroos preliminary World Cup squad.

"They are all united behind the bid and supporting the bid."

"I think everyone sees this is a moment for Australia to shine."

Australia will make a presentation to the sport's world governing body in Zurich on Friday and Buckley says many areas of their bid will exceed FIFA's expectations.

Full details of the bid, including confirmation of which stadia will be used, will be unveiled on Friday, with up to three new venues expected to be constructed.

"It's a technically excellent bid and it delivers on all the criteria that FIFA have set down and exceeds their expectations in many areas," Buckley said.

"We're very pleased with the quality of the technical bid and now there is six months to ensure that we convince the FIFA world that we are ready to host."

Buckley wouldn't be drawn on whether the FFA had opted for Melbourne or Sydney to host the final.

"The MCG has the capacity and the history and ANZ Stadium has hosted the Olympics, so we are blessed with two fantastic options." Buckley said.
