Kris Boyd took advantage of some poor defending to open the scoring on 17 minutes and Kyle Lafferty doubled the Gers' advantage shortly before the break when he turned home a Steven Naismith cross.

Substitute Jamie Murphy then gave the visitors hope six minutes after half-time as he took advantage of good work from Jim O'Brien to make it 2-1, but Lafferty restored the two-goal advantage on 70 minutes.

However, there was late drama as Motherwell - who produced a dramatic comeback in the 6-6 draw with Hibernian during the week - hit two goals in the dying moments to deny the hosts, with Steven Jennings nodding home before Lukas Jutkiewicz converted an injury-time penalty.

Rangers, who secured the title last month with victory over Hibernian, were presented with the trophy after the match.

Celtic's interim boss Neil Lennon bolstered his hopes of taking the job on a permanent basis with a 2-1 win at Hearts.

Aiden McGeady set up Robbie Keane to fire the Bhoys into the lead on 23 minutes, but Hearts were back on level terms when Marius Zaliukas turned in a Craig Thomson free-kick.

Edson Braafheid thought he had put the visitors back in front only to see it ruled out because his free-kick was indirect, but Zheng Zhi volleyed into the top corner on the hour to give Celtic the three points.

In Sunday's third game, Hibernian beat Dundee United 2-1 at Tannadice thanks to a brace from Colin Nish.
