Mancini confident Man City will cope without Given

Manchester City manager Robert Mancini believes his side can cope without Shay Given after the Irishman went off injured in the goalless draw at Arsenal.

Given suffered a shoulder injury when diving to make a save in the second half and was replaced by Faroe Islands international Gunnar Nielsen.

"I hope it's a little injury, but I don't know. Now Shay is in the hospital so I don't know,'' Mancini told ESPN. "I don't think we have a problem for the next three games.''

Defender Kolo Toure admitted Given will be a loss, but gave his backing to Nielsen.

"I think he's done his shoulder,'' said the Ivorian. "He's a really important player for us. I think the second goalkeeper did really well.''

Mancini later confirmed on the club's official website that Given would miss the remaining three games of the season, but seemed a little more concerned about replacing him: "Shay's injury will be a problem. It's not good for us because Shay is a fantastic goalkeeper. He is important to us, but in football you can always get injured.

"Shay is in hospital, but we have 10 days and must play three big games. Gunnar came on and did very well. Stuart is still some way off and everyone must be 200% now.''

Mancini was pleased to hold the Gunners at the Emirates.

"It's a good point. I think we played a good game today,'' he said. "Today I think we deserved a point. I think a draw is the right result. We had spirit and character, it's not easy to play here.''

Mancini brought on former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor early in the second half, to jeers from the home crowd.

"When Manu came on the pitch we played more offensively, we player better,'' said Mancini. "He played very well.''

Toure also saw the draw as a point gained.

"One point is always really good because when you go to Arsenal it's always really difficult to play against them,'' he said. "It was a really tough game. Both teams were a little bit scared as we know each other and both teams have good strikers.''

Arsenal are now virtually sure of third place, and with it automatic qualification for the Champions League.

"I am not used to games like this,'' said Arsene Wenger. "We created very little chances. Man City did not create anything, were highly focused on defending and gave us no space. We could not find an opener. It was a locked game of very few chances.

"But we did not throw everything forwards blindly, because we knew we could not afford to lose. However, we are nearly there [Champions League]. It is 90% now, but not yet 100.''

On the return of Adebayor, Wenger noted: "He made it a bit lively, because our supporters also got lively. He was focused and motivated, sharp. Even then, though, they did not commit a lot and played on counter-attack.''

Wenger was impressed by the performance of veteran Sol Campbell, who produced a consistent display in front of watching England manager Fabio Capello.

"Maybe he will go to South Africa,'' quipped the Arsenal boss. "I have to sit down with Sol and see what he wants to do next season. Since he has been in the team, he has been outstanding. I never expected that from him, and it is credit to him.

"You can compare Sol with any centre-back in the league. He has been very, very good.''
