Hoddle expects Spurs to shine at Old Trafford

Tottenham Hotspur legend Glenn Hoddle expects his former club to tip the balance in the Premier League title race when they face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Spurs have beaten Arsenal and Chelsea in their last two matches at White Hart Lane to throw the title race wide open and Hoddle believes Harry Redknapp's team can also get a result against the reigning champions.

Hoddle said: "Tottenham have had a really big say in the Premiership title race so far and you never know they might even beat Manchester United after their last two great results."

With stuttering league leaders Chelsea expecting a physical match at home to Stoke City the former Blues manager thinks the title race will have an interesting finish.

"Chelsea have a tough one at home, where the pressure will be really on them. So I think there will still be a few twists and turns, so much so that you cannot call it between Chelsea and Manchester Untied at the moment.

"I have got to say that although Chelsea lost at Tottenham, I really do still think that the title race is in Chelsea's hands... we shall see."

With Spurs playing such a key role in the title, Hoddle, who made over 375 appearances for Tottenham, doesn't think that Redknapp will be deflected from his pursuit of fourth place.

Hoddle added: "Even if Spurs don't get anything, or just a point at Manchester United, the key result, the key game for Spurs will be at Manchester City, without doubt.

"As Spurs are going up there to play Manchester City their fate is in their hands. If they perform well and beat Manchester City then that is there for the taking.

"What a wonderful game at the end of the season, with their fate in their own hands."

• Glenn Hoddle was interviewed by Leicester Square TV at Planet Hollywood for the launch of The Fans Guide to the World Cup, sponsored by Thomson Sport.
