Petrov ruled out for season

Manchester City winger Martin Petrov has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Petrov, who has suffered a number of injuries since joining City from Atletico Madrid in 2007, aggravated the problem against Stoke in February and subsequently had surgery in Barcelona.

"My season is over," he told Trud Daily. "I wanted to play in several matches at the end of the championship but the doctors said I should take a rest for three more weeks.

"I am disappointed and at times even desperate. Deep inside, I do not give up and hope to overcome this nightmare.''

Petrov, 31, may have played his last game for the club as he has rejected the offer of a one-year contract extension at Eastlands. The Bulgaria international complained about his treatment under Mark Hughes as he failed to hold down a regular place in the side, although he had been given more playing time under Roberto Mancini.
