Pardew linked with Celtic job

Alan Pardew is a contender to become the new Celtic boss, according to reports in Scotland.

The Daily Record suggests Pardew, currently at Southampton, is on the shortlist to replace Tony Mowbray on a permanent basis having been recommended to the club's board.

However, no official approach has been made and it is understood that caretaker boss Neil Lennon will be given until the end of the season to prove his worth.

Lennon said: "The situation remains the same from the day I took over after Tony left. I'm not asking about it. I'm too busy concentrating on things.

"I've spoken to Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawwell - I speak to Peter daily - but we don't talk about who they are looking at or if they are thinking of bringing someone in."

When contacted about the reports, Pardew said: "It has been brought to my attention that my name is in one of the papers but I have no comment to make."

Pardew has previously managed Reading, West Ham and Charlton. Craig Levein could also be a contender for the job.
