Zamora thanks Hodgson for keeping faith

Bobby Zamora has thanked Roy Hodgson for keeping faith in his abilities after firing Fulham into the Europa League semi-final.

Zamora fires Fulham to semis

Zamora has previously struggled to make his mark in the Premier League but has been in superb form this season, notching his 19th goal of the season against Wolfsburg on Thursday to help his team to a 3-1 aggregate victory.

Zamora, 29, faced criticism last season following his move from West Ham and came close to a move to Hull in the summer, but he decided to remain at Craven Cottage and credits Hodgson with his upturn in confidence.

"The biggest thing he did was sticking with me when many people were gunning for my head," he told the Evening Standard. "He knew what I gave the team and what I did for the team, and that's exactly what he wanted."

Zamora's form has led to growing calls for him to go to the World Cup with England, but he insists he is simply focused on a strong finish to the season with his club.

"Honestly, I'm not looking anywhere near that far," he said. "With so many fixtures left, there is no chance to think about that. It is a case of doing as well as I can for Fulham."

Hodgson believes Zamora has done all he can to convince Fabio Capello he is worthy of a place in South Africa.

"Bobby Zamora is a very good player," he said. "This year, by adding goals to his excellent build-up play, he's come to everyone's attention and he can do no more than continue to play well.

"Then, I'm sure when Fabio Capello is looking at the players available to take to the World Cup, he will make his assessment. I know Fabio is aware of Bobby as a player, but Bobby can't do any more himself."
