Andrei Arshavin fears three-week absence

Andrei Arshavin expects to be sidelined for between two and three weeks as a result of his calf injury sustained against Barcelona, ruling him out of the second leg at Camp Nou and an important period of Arsenal's season.

• Broken leg fear for Fabregas
• Gallas to make World Cup
• Johnson: Gallas the critical blow
• Forum: Euro pain for English clubs

A fortunate 2-2 draw for the Gunners at Emirates Stadium was soured by injuries to three key players, most notably captain Cesc Fabregas, who could miss the remainder of the season due to a suspected broken leg.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that defender William Gallas may also have played his last game this season after being stretchered off with a calf complaint and Arshavin was also substituted in the first half due to a fitness problem.

While Arsenal have made no official comment on the condition of the Russia international, Arshavin expects to miss the return leg, Premier League games against Wolves and Tottenham and possibly the first leg of the semi-final, should Barcelona be beaten at Camp Nou.

"Perhaps, I won't be able to come out on the pitch for another two or three weeks," Arshavin told his official website.

Arshavin departed the pitch with the score at 0-0 and was receiving treatment as Arsenal mounted a remarkable comeback to draw 2-2 having gone 2-0 down to two excellent goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Arshavin added: "Now I can say only one thing: Arsenal footballers, without doubt, showed their character."

Some injury respite has come in the form of Robin van Persie though as the striker is nearing a return from ankle ligament damage suffered in November.

Wenger said: "The latest news on Robin van Persie is very promising, but we have to wait two more weeks to integrate him fully into first-team training. Let's hope we can give him some big games to aim for at the end of the season."
