Cole: No contract offer on the table

Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole has revealed that contract negotiations at Stamford Bridge have broken down, putting a number of Premier League clubs on alert.

The 28-year-old's current deal expires in the summer, at which point he could leave on a free transfer after seven years at the London club.

Chelsea's contract offer has been withdrawn after both parties failed to come to an agreement. However, Cole is still keen to sign a new deal with the Blues.

"I've never spoken publicly about contracts before," he told The Sun. "I don't think contracts should really be discussed mid-season. I have always signed mine in the summer in the past.

"But this time it's different. We can't seem to find common ground and it's distracting. At the moment there is no offer on the table, so I know where I stand. I still hope to talk in the summer."

Cole has missed much of the season with a serious knee injury and has struggled to force his way into Carlo Ancelotti's team since returning.

The England international has been linked with both Manchester United and Manchester City in recent weeks but Ancelotti said he was "100% certain" Cole would still be at Chelsea next season.
