La Liga: Real go top after dramatic win over Sevilla

Real Madrid climbed to the top of La Liga after a dramatic last-gasp 3-2 victory over Sevilla in the Bernabeu.

Rafael Van der Vaart turned the ball home from close range with two minutes left in stoppage time to cap a remarkable comeback, after the hosts found themselves 2-0 down with 52 minutes gone.

Xabi Alonso turned a cross into his own net after just ten minutes and when Iker Casillas failed to deal with Ivica Dragutinovic's free kick Sevilla were on course for a famous win.

But Cristinao Ronaldo swept home a cross on the hour to give Real hope before Sergio Ramos brought the home side level just four minutes later.

Just seconds remained when Van der Vaart capitalised on a loose ball after Andres Palop had saved from Gonzalo Higuain to seal a thrilling victory.

Barcelona twice came from behind to claim a point at Almeria in a match that finished 2-2 after being blighted by some bizarre refereeing decisions from Carlos Clos Gomez.

Clos Gomez delayed the start of the match for almost a quarter of an hour, harshly sent off Pep Guardiola and Zlatan Ibrahimovic and incorrectly awarded a free-kick to Barcelona which led to their first equaliser.

Domingo Cisma had put Almeria ahead after 12 minutes, with the home side's second coming 12 minutes into the second period via a Carles Puyol own-goal.

But either side of those home goals, Lionel Messi scored a sublime free kick and then a close range tap in to save ten-man Barca a point.

Deportivo La Coruna boosted their hopes of a return to European competition with a comfortable 3-1 win over relegation-threatened Tenerife.

Miguel Angel Lotina's side had to come from behind to win the points, though, as Juanlu Hens gave the Canary Islanders a shock lead after 17 minutes.

Juan Rodriguez levelled with a header shortly after the half-hour mark and second-half strikes from Andres Guardado and Diego Colotto ensured all three points for the Galicians, who move provisionally into fifth place.
