Willem II have parted company with coach Alfons Groenendijk following a miserable season for the Tilburg club.
A 2-1 loss at NEC Nijmegen in midweek has left the side second from bottom in the Eredivisie standings, six points from safety.
Groenendijk has paid the price for that poor form, according to Willem II technical director Henry van der Vegt.
"Despite every effort made to improve the team, the results continue,'' he said on the club's official website. "We did not feel Alfons could still turn the tide here.''
Mark Schenning will take charge of the squad for Sunday's daunting trip to second-placed FC Twente.
