Butt signs one-year contract extension at Bayern

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Hans-Jorg Butt has signed a one-year contract extension to keep him at the Allianz Arena until June 2011. Butt, 35, who joined the club in 2008 from Benfica primarily as a back-up, has established himself as first choice ahead of Michael Rensing under coach Louis van Gaal this term.

"We are very happy with Jorg's performances and we are pleased that Bayern will be able to call on him for a further season," Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told the club's official website.

Butt, who played in the 2002 Champions League final for Bayer Leverkusen, said: "I am very happy at Bayern and I am looking forward to continuing my successful time in Munich."

"I believe we have a great time in front of us and also have the potential to become even stronger. I am confident that we will win one domestic title or another.

"Our big aim is of course the German championship, and we also want to bring the DFB Pokal (German Cup) to Munich. And we can certainly also play a role internationally.''

Butt has played 19 of Bayern's 22 Bundesliga games this season and all six of their Champions League matches.
