Chester suspended from Conference for a week

Chester City have been suspended from the Football Conference for seven days after failing to fulfil two of their fixtures.

The club were unable to field a team for Tuesday's clash at Forest Green after unpaid players refused to get on the team bus.

They were also forced to postpone this Sunday's derby clash with Wrexham because the local authority issued a prohibition notice on the Deva Stadium after police refused to man the game over an unpaid bill.

The Blues will now meet with the Football Conference on Thursday, February 18 to answer questions about failing to fulfil those fixtures and to prove that such a situation will not arise again in the future.

Chester's managing director Bob Gray told Sky Sports News: ''It's good news for the fans as they still have a football club. There are investors out there who are still interested in taking over the club, or being part of the football club through investment.

''It's not all doom and gloom. We have to fight hard to keep this club going. What we'd like is that if the investors come through in the next seven days then the fans can support the football club as well.

''We will fight hammer and tongs with the conference next week and hopefully continue to play football, which is all we have ever wanted to do.''

Chester will also not fulfil next Wednesday's clash with Kidderminster as a result of the suspension. They were handed a 25-point penalty after falling into administration last summer and currently lie 31 points adrift of safety.

They faced a winding-up order from Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs last month but were handed a 42-day adjournment, and the club was also put up for sale for £1.
