Fourth division Quevilly stun Rennes

Fourth-tier Quevilly caused the upset of the night in the Coupe de France by defeating Ligue 1 Rennes 1-0 to advance to the quarter-finals.

Gregory Beaugrard was on target for the CFA club a minute before the interval in the last-16 encounter and Rennes had no reply. Frederic Antonetti, whose Rennes side beat Ligue 1 champions Bordeaux 4-2 on Saturday night, was gracious in defeat.

"Every year, the Coupe de France has its share of surprises,'' he said. "It falls on us. It's very hard. "It must be gracious and congratulate Quevilly. They settled into the game well. We failed to score. All the explanations in the world are not enough.''

Elsewhere, holders Guingamp were ousted 1-0 by Boulogne. Alexandre Cuvillier struck the game's only goal at the Stade de la Liberation to earn the hosts a place in the quarter-finals and end the Ligue 2 side's cup adventure.

The other two top-flight teams in action this evening also progressed at the expense of lower-league opposition.

Sochaux went through in style with a comprehensive 4-1 win at third-tier Beauvais. Marvin Martin put the visitors in the driving seat with two goals in the first half-hour.

Romain Canales gave the National outfit hope by converting a 43rd-minute penalty but Nicolas Maurice-Belay lashed home another spot-kick for Sochaux 10 minutes into the second half before Yassine Mikari sealed matters seven minutes from time.

Paris St Germain, struggling in Ligue 1, eased the pressure on coach Antoine Kombouare by winning 1-0 at fourth-tier Vesoul. Ludovic Giuly's solitary strike after 15 minutes proved the difference between the teams.

The match finished as a 10-a-side affair with Cedric Paul dismissed for the hosts after 71 minutes and PSG midfielder Stephane Sessegnon following suit four minutes later.
