D-day deals: Nugent extends loan, Toon sign Best

Some of the deadline deals you may have missed....

Portsmouth striker David Nugent has extended his loan deal at Burnley until the end of the season.

Nugent has been on loan at Turf Moor since the start of the season and was due to return to Fratton Park but Portsmouth were keen to keep the England striker off their wage bill given the poor financial state of the club.

The Clarets have also signed young Chelsea midfielder Jack Cork on loan until the end of the season.

Coventry striker Leon Best has joined Newcastle United on a three-and-a-half year deal.

Best has scored nine Championship goals in 15 games for Chris Coleman's side this season and played against his new club at the Ricoh Arena in December.

Sky Blues chairman Ray Ranson said: "The situation with Leon's contract has been well documented. When it was apparent that we couldn't agree terms for him to remain at Coventry City, we knew we would have to listen to offers and act in the best interests of the club.''

The Magpies moved for Best after their deal for new Wigan striker Victor Moses broke down. The club are still thought to be looking at bringing in Everton striker James Vaughan in on loan until the end of the season.

Newcastle have also confirmed midfielder Geremi has left St James' Park for Turkish club Ankaragucu.

Stoke midfielder Michael Tonge has joined Derby on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 28-year-old, who had a month-long spell at Preston before the turn of the year, will go straight into the Rams squad for the Championship game at his former club Sheffield United on Saturday.

"Michael is a player with a proven pedigree and will give us added quality in the ranks,'' said Derby manager Nigel Clough.

Sunderland's Daryl Murphy has sealed a deadline-day loan move to rejoin former Black Cats manager Roy Keane at Ipswich.

The 26-year-old Republic of Ireland international has signed for the Tractor Boys on loan until the end of the season.

Sheffield United have signed two Premier League defenders on loan with Nyron Nosworthy joining from Sunderland and Toni Kallio making the move from Fulham.

Manchester City wing-back Javan Vidal has joined Championship side Derby County on loan.

The 20-year-old England youth international usually plays at right-back, though he can also play in midfield.

West Brom have signed of Feyenoord winger Andwele Slory on a free transfer.

The Dutch international, who prefers to be called Andy, has penned a five-month deal with the option of a further year. "I'm very excited - I've always dreamed of a foreign adventure," Slory told Feyenoord's official website

Dutch defender Shelton Martis has left the Baggies to join Doncaster. He had previously been at the Keepmoat Stadium on a loan deal.

Veteran striker Marcus Bent has left Birmingham to join QPR on loan, while Rangers have also struck a deal to bring Hungarian striker Tamas Priskin in on loan from Ipswich.

Rangers will be the 13th club Bent has played for in his 15-year professional career. "I'm buzzing about coming here," Bent told QPR's official website. "I'm ready to go, I can't wait to get started."

Fulham midfielder Wayne Brown has joined League One side Bristol Rovers on a one-month loan deal.

Brown, 21, had a loan spell with Finnish side Turun Palloseura last season and will hope to get more first-team experience under his belt at the Memorial Stadium.

Leicester have completed the loan signing of defender Alex Bruce from Ipswich. The 25-year-old will remain at the Walkers Stadium until the end of the season and could make his debut against Blackpool at the weekend.
