Crespo "speechless" after making Parma return

Parma have secured the services of Genoa striker Hernan Crespo in a move that sees the Argentina striker return to the club where he began his Serie A career.

Crespo, who has netted five goals in Serie A this season to help Genoa up to eighth in the table, first joined Parma from River Plate in August 1996, and he admitted his return to the club where he first made his name in Europe was an emotional one.

"I'm speechless," Crespo told Parma's official website. "My happiness goes beyond anything I could possibly describe. I can't believe it! I have always been a Parma fan and so coming back here is an extraordinary feeling.

"My happiest memory at Parma was the last-gasp 1-1 against Juventus, it was just incredible, as we had been reduced to nine men. I went crazy and I remember all my teammates and then Coach Alberto Malesani landed on top of me!

Crespo scored 24 goals over his first two seasons with Parma, then 16 in the third and an impressive 22 once he found his stride in 1999-2000. He also helped the team win the UEFA Cup and Coppa Italia.

The move has caused the transfer merry-go-round to spring into life in Serie A with Amoruso being sold to Atalanta - his 13th club in Italy - to make way for Crespo, while Robert Acquafresca has been loaned to Genoa, from Atalanta.
