Portsmouth's website goes offline due to cash crisis

Portsmouth's official website was temporarily taken offline on Thursday after the club failed to keep up payments to the company that runs the site.

A club spokesman said: "Our website is down because the club has failed to keep to the payment plan agreed with our service provider. However, the bill was paid and the website is now running again.''

Supporters attempting to access the site were greeted with the message ''Website Unavailable'' until mid-afternoon when it was restored.

Portsmouth are currently seeking new investment and have failed to pay their playing staff on time on three occasions this season.

The club have also been served with a winding-up petition by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs and a hearing is scheduled for February 10.

However, a transfer embargo has been partially lifted, meaning Portsmouth are able to sign players on free transfers or on loan before the transfer window closes on Monday.
