Pompey close to Owusu-Abeyie loan signing

Portsmouth expect to conclude their negotiations to bring Quincy Owusu-Abeyie to Pompey from Spartak Moscow in the next 24 hours.

The former Arsenal player has agreed to the move, and will become Avram Grant's first signing since the Premier League lifted Pompey's transfer embargo, albeit for loan deals only.

A source close to Portsmouth told ESPNsoccernet: "We are just waiting for all the paperwork to come through. We are dealing with a foreign player, and one coming from Russia.

"We have all sorts of complications to go through such as work permits, but we anticipate it will be sorted out soon, we are just awaiting confirmation now."

Owusu-Abeiye has been at Spartak Moscow since 2006, but was loaned out to Celta Vigo in 2007, and spent periods at Birmingham City and Cardiff last season.

No loan fee is being demanded for the Ghana international, which is welcome news for cash-strapped Portsmouth.

Meanwhile, Portsmouth have confirmed that defender Mike Williamson has joined Newcastle United after failing to make a single appearance since his £3 million move from Watford in the summer.
