Liverpool have moved quickly to dismiss claims that midfielder Yossi Benayoun could be signing for Russian club Dinamo Moscow.
Dinamo's sporting director Konstantin Sarsania had suggested that a deal had been agreed with the player and his representatives and the matter was now in the hands of Liverpool's board.
Furthermore, he claimed that although Rafael Benitez did not want to sell Benayoun, the club's owners could overrule the manager and sell the player for a reported £7 million.
"It is true that we have come to an agreement with the player's agent," Sarsania said. "In the next two days Liverpool will make their own decision.
"When we completed the signing of Andriy Voronin, consent was given by Benitez. Now the Liverpool coach is against losing Benayoun but the decision is not his. It is for the club directors. The transfer of Benayoun will happen if the price is acceptable. If they want more than we expect, the board of directors will discuss the issue."
However, Liverpool are adamant that Benayoun - who has made 20 Premier League appearances this season, scoring five goals - will not be leaving Anfield in January. A club spokesman said: "The player is not for sale, it's as simple as that."
