United and Wigan in hunt for De Gea?

Manchester United and Wigan Athletic are said to be among the Premier League clubs interested in signing young Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David De Gea.

Atletico currently boast two of the best goalkeeping prospects in Spain with De Gea currently competing with Sergio Asenjo, just a year his senior, for a place between the sticks at the Vicente Calderon.

Héctor Rincón, agent to De Gea, told ESPNsoccernet that he had fielded some English interest but warned that Atletico are closing in on a new contract with the 20-year-old.

Rincón said: "A few Premier League clubs have been asking about De Gea. Especially Wigan, who made an an offer which Atletico turned down.

"Roberto Martinez thinks De Gea is ready for the Premier League but Atletico have insisted they want De Gea to stay at Calderon. Manchester are interested too. I didn't talk with [Sir Alex] Ferguson but an intermediary of Manchester confirmed there's real interest in De Gea."

Rincón warned that interested parties may need to move fast. "Any club can buy him right now just by paying €12 million because De Gea does not have a professional contract, but we are talking with Atletico to close the agreement."
