French Cup: Monaco pile woes onto Lyon

Park Chu-Young scored the decisive goal as Monaco claimed their place in the last 16 of the Coupe de France with a 2-1 victory over Lyon.

• French Cup draw

In a clash between Ligue 1 rivals, Jean Alain Boumsong fired Les Gones in front on the stroke of half-time but a penalty from Nene five minutes after the restart levelled matters. Park then popped up in the 78th minute to smash home Monaco's second and earn them a clash against Bordeaux in the next round.

Elsewhere, Paris St Germain safely made it through to the last 16 seeing off third-division Evian 3-1. Mevlut Erding grabbed one in each half before Kevin Berigaud reignited the tie in the 66th minute. But Guillaume Hoarau added a third in stoppage time to seal PSG's first win of the year.

In the other last-32 tie, Thibault Giresse grabbed the only goal of the game as holders Guingamp beat fourth-division Mulhouse.

Earlier in the day, the round of 64 was finally completed. St Etienne boosted their miserable season as they humiliated mid-table Lorient 4-1, with Emmanuel Riviere, Dimitrie Payet and Bakary Sako ensuring the game was over as a contest by half-time.

Payet added another in the 73rd minute for the Ligue 1 strugglers before Gabriel Penalba grabbed a consolation for Lorient from the spot 10 minutes later.

Elsewhere, Nancy narrowly avoided a banana skin as fifth-division Thiers took the Ligue 1 side all the way to a penalty shoot-out.

Thiers stunned Nancy by taking a 27th-minute lead through Daniel Abessolo before Gaston Curbelo scored his first goal in two and a half years at the club in the 67th minute. Nancy eventually won through 3-2 on penalties with goalkeeper Damian Gregorini saving three spot-kicks.

St Etienne travel to fourth-division Villefranche in the next round while Nancy host third-division Plabennec, who saw off Nice in their tie.

  • French Cup draw

Bordeaux have been drawn against Monaco in what is the pick of the ties in the last 16 of the Coupe de France.

The Ligue 1 champions easily demolished Ajaccio 5-1 in the previous round but will face a harder task against a Monaco side who defeated Lyon 2-1.

Lens or Marseille could also find themselves with a mouthwatering tie as the winners of their last-32 clash will meet Toulouse should they manage to get past Brest.

There are two more possible all-Ligue 1 ties as St Etienne could meet Grenoble if both see off Villefranche and Vannes respectively, while should Auxerre eliminate Sedan they could be pitted against Nancy if they get through their last-32 match against Plabennec.

Elsewhere, holders Guingamp travel to either Colmar or Boulogne and third-division Beauvais will definitely meet a top-flight side in either Sochaux or Le Mans.

Paris St Germain are one of the few to know their opponents as they host Vesoul, whose fourth-division rivals Quevilly entertain last year's beaten finalists Rennes.
