Serie A: Inter win derby, Palermo up to fifth

Inter Milan rallied to beat rivals AC 2-0 in the Milan derby, despite having Wesley Sneijder and Lucio sent off.

• Saturday's round-up

Diego Milito put the Serie A leaders ahead with a neat finish, after poor defending from Ignazio Abate, but then Wesley Sneijder was sent off for verbally abusing referee Gianluca Rocchi.

In the second half Goran Pandev netted a classy free-kick, as AC failed to take advantage of their extra man. Late on, Lucio was given a second yellow card for blocking the ball with his hand in the box, but the night belonged to Inter as Julio Cesar saved Ronadinho's penalty.

Palermo climbed to fifth with a 3-0 home win over Fiorentina in Serie A on Sunday. Palermo prevailed thanks to a first-half double by 19-year-old Uruguayan forward Abel Hernandez and Igor Budan's acrobatic effort just before the hour.

The Sicilians' victory means Juventus drop to sixth after their miserable run continued with a 2-1 home defeat by third-placed AS Roma on Saturday, leaving coach Ciro Ferrara in danger of losing his job.

Napoli consolidated fourth place by beating lowly Livorno 2-0 away. Christian Maggio scored on the stroke of half-time with a glorious right-footed volley for Napoli, whose bid for Champions League qualification was helped by Livorno's Cristiano Lucarelli making a mess of a second-half spot kick.

Luca Cigarini sealed matters with a stoppage-time free kick when the hosts had midfielder Davide Marchini in goal after Alfonso De Lucia was sent off for handball outside the box with all their replacements used.

Sampdoria boss Luigi Del Neri's surprise decision to drop off-the-boil forward Antonio Cassano seemed to pay dividends as the early pacesetters' twice came from behind to beat struggling Udinese 3-2 and halt a slide in form.

Hosts Udinese, who are now one point above the relegation zone, were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty in the closing stages when Alexis Sanchez was taken down in the area.

Lazio are one point higher up in the standings after they were held 1-1 at home by Chievo Verona. Chievo striker Sergio Pellissier scored a 77th-minute equaliser to cancel out Guglielmo Stendardo's 18th-minute opener. The result is of little consolation for the Romans, whose troubles in Italy's top flight continue.

Genoa needed just 45 minutes to see of the challenge of Atalanta and record only their second victory of 2010, moving them back into the group of clubs chasing a European berth next season. Rodrigo Palacio put the Rossoblu ahead in the eighth minute before Hernan Crespo sealed the win three minutes before the break.

Alessandro Matri struck a late penalty to deny Siena victory and ensure a hard-earned 1-1 draw for 10-man Cagliari. Emmanuele Calaio had given Siena a 78th minute lead but the hosts shot themselves on the foot two minutes later.

Emilson Cribari was shown a straight red after bringing down Cagliari's Andrea Cossu inside the area. Matri coolly struck from the penalty spot past Siena goalkeeper Gianluca Pegolo to earn his team a share of the spoils.

Henry Gimenez was once again the hero for Bologna as he came off the bench to fire his team to what could prove to be a crucial victory against in-form Bari.

Paulo Barreto had given the visitors a half-time lead before Gimenez levelled minutes after coming on as a substitute and the Uruguay striker, who scored the winner at Fiorentina last week, secured the points again for Bologna in the 72nd minute.
