Bordeaux star Chamakh keen for swift resolution

Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh insists he has little intention of signing a contract extension as Liverpool continue to be linked with a move. Chamakh will be a free agent in the summer and a number of Premier League sides have shown an interest in his signature, but Arsenal and Liverpool are thought to be best placed and reports in France suggest he may well be set to move to Anfield.

Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud has not yet given up hope of persuading the player to stay with the Ligue 1 champions but, while Chamakh is set to discuss the offer currently on the table at the weekend, the 26-year-old has indicated that he would like to secure a move away as soon as possible.

"I am not thinking of extending [my deal]," he told France Football. "I will know more this weekend when I speak to my advisers, but it's unlikely I will stay. I believe things must be talked about quickly. The club must also make up their mind."

However, Brazilian midfielder Fernando looks does appear set to commit his future to Bordeaux despite interest from Serie A side Genoa.

"I will stay in Bordeaux," Fernando told L'Equipe. "The club has refused all offers and there is a final meeting scheduled with the bosses on my extension at the end of next week."
