Manzano insists Mallorca do not need a miracle

Real Mallorca coach Gregorio Manzano insists his side do not need a miracle to make it through to the last four of the Copa del Rey despite suffering a surprise home defeat to Getafe in the first leg of their quarter-final.

Mallorca had won all of the previous 11 league and cup matches at their Ono Estadi home this season but that proud record came to an end last night when they were beaten 2-1 by Getafe.

That has left the islanders with a tough task in next week's return leg, where to avoid elimination, Manzano's men will need to claim only their second win in 12 away matches this season against a Getafe side who have won eight of their 10 home games.

Those statistics suggest it is Getafe - chasing a spot in the cup final for the third time in four years - who are overwhelming favourites to make the semi-final, but Manzano is not ruling out his side.

"We don't need a miracle, but two goals," he said. "We need to fight because a 2-1 deficit is not unsalvageable. We aren't going to throw in the towel even though it's true that the tie is far from easy for us."

After a goalless first half last night, Getafe took the game by the scruff of the neck as goals from Manu del Moral and new signing Miku put the visitors 2-0 up after 66 minutes.

However, Mallorca pulled a potentially crucial goal back deep into injury-time through Gonzalo Castro to haul themselves back into the tie.

"The goal has given us hope," Manzano added. "The important things is that we didn't give up at any time, we've looked for the goal, even if we haven't been able to find it before. A draw would've been more fitting from we've seen on the pitch."
